I’m Joey Harrison, a Junior at Trinity School in New York City. I have always been a curious learner, and am passionate about helping others. I value motivation, patience, and collaboration, and I bring those qualities into every tutoring session. Through sports and school clubs, I have learned the importance of leadership and peer support necessary in tutoring. My goal is to make learning approachable, effective, and enjoyable for every student I work with.

I want to tutor because I enjoy helping others build confidence in their learning. I want to empower other students to unlock their potential and succeed academically.

I volunteer weekly at a local community center after school, where I tutor elementary school kids with their homework; I am a Modern Language Tutor for students in my school, where I tutor Spanish. I have worked with a wide variety of students of various ages, and developed the range of experience I need to help students succeed with MyPeerPrep.

I break down difficult concepts into smaller, manageable steps and use examples or analogies that connect to a student’s interests. This way, abstract ideas become more concrete and easier to understand.

I co-lead a Teen Board for a nonprofit organization in New York City dedicated to combating homelessness by providing transitional and affordable housing. I have been a 2-year member and 1-year captain of my Varsity Golf Team, I lead a Spanish-written newspaper at my school, and I volunteer with underprivileged children and tutor them weekly.

My favorite subject to tutor is math, and I am most proficient in it. I love the problem-solving it requires, and it has been my favorite subject in school since I was little.

I have maintained a 4.0 GPA thus far in high school while balancing rigorous coursework; I am the captain of my school’s Varsity Golf Team and have received two spirit awards selected by coaches and teammates for leadership, sportsmanship, and dedication.
